演講題目:Processing Modeling of Surface Mechanical Attrition Treatment and Its
Application
Surface mechanical attrition treatment (SMAT) introduced by Prof. J. Lu of City University of Hong Kong is widely used to improve the surface microstructure and properties of materials, such as the hardness and wear loss of commercial 304 and 316 stainless steel. In general, this technique is better than the traditional shot peening processing. In this talk, I am going to present how to optimize the processing parameters of SMAT in order to achieve the refined structure with attractive mechanical properties of 304 stainless steel using the combination of statistical modeling and experiments. On the other hand, the SMAT has been further extended to the thin film coating on sample surface, and it is called the ultrasonic mechanical coating and armoring (UMCA), proposed by Dr. Komarov. This talk will mention how to apply statistical modeling to optimize the thermal dissipation of Al heat sink through the processing of UMCA. The principles of experiments and modeling of SMAT and UMCA processing will be simply introduced in this talk.
